SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:

·         To instruct students in the elements of grammar and style.

Grammar is that organizing principle that helps to structure a language.  Perhaps it is the most important component of a language. Use of language in our local contexts differs from Standard English.  The local variety often “crosses over” in the participants’ attempts at Standard English expression in both speech and writing. The goal of this module is to allow students to develop the facility for acquiring Standard English in order to produce written text of a high quality.  The focus then, is on those areas where students will need most development and practice.
